Overview
An alert policy allows you to configure a degradation threshold for your metrics. If the metric reaches below or above that threshold you will be alerted via your configured notification channel.
Create
Start by creating a new metric or navigating to the metric for which you would like to be alerted of a change. Learn more about creating a metric.
Once you have selected the metric you would like to create an alert policy for, you can navigate to the alert policy builder by selecting the tab "Alert Policy" on the metric definition page. Note that alert policies can only be created for metrics that are measured per traffic type, rather than those that are measured across the traffic type you are using.
A. Name your alert policy
Give your alert policy an easily recognizable name. We recommend also including the metric name your alert policy is associated with in your policy name.
B. Add a description (optional)
Give your alert policy a description. This can include anything that would be useful to you and your team if an alert is fired. Include runbooks, alerting protocols, and key information about the alert.
C. Add an alert condition
An alert policy can have multiple alert conditions. Each alert condition relates to a particular environment.
D. Choose your environment
Choose the environment you would like to apply the alert condition to. If you already have an alert condition for a particular environment, this will not be available in the environment drop down when you create a second alert condition.
E. Add a degradation threshold
Add a degradation threshold in the form of a relative percentage threshold or absolute value threshold. The degradation direction is assumed to be the opposite of the desired direction of the metric. Learn more about setting degradation thresholds in our guide.
F. Configure the alert notification channel
Configure who should be notified if an alert is fired. As default, the metric owner will be selected. You can also select the emails of any group as well as add emails via the freeform section.
